listening practice

This will be the audio I will base the listening exam on Thursday NOV 12th. Some of the activities will be similar to the ones expected to pass the exam (only easier, I won't use prices that much, but clothing and colours).
By training to this text you should be able to hit a good mark. When done with the practice, visit the previous posts of this blog to do some past tense training, there will be a couple of questions in your final exam.

Instructions: click the link below, watch the video (you can also add subtitles if you wish) and then go to the bottom to the "actividades interactivas" and test your comprehension in the interactive guide.
Some clothing words are new. I won't use those in the exam. You have a hard copy to guide you through the activities.

Spanish verbs and how it works

Online tutorials verbs:

If you still have doubts about how the Spanish language changes the ending of verbs to create different tenses, there is a nice tutorial online to understand better.
As mentioned in class, verb conjugation will add bonus points to score higher in the exam, however, not all students are used to the patterns. Once understood and after practising for a bit, it ends up being very predictable and easy.

I have also posted more self-paced practice on the Y9 group in Quizlet for you to test your knowledge.

I add two visual links, but there are other sets on the y9 folder. You just have to join Quizlet to start practising (tests, racing tests and scores across schools!)

links to practise "shopping in a market" language

Hola chicos y chicas!

This is an interactive video to practise some market Spanish and useful phrases! It is very entertaining and won't take you more than 20 minutes to complete.

There is some new language: you will notice that instead of using:

- Quiero / quiere / quisiera (I want/would like)

they use another expression: ¿Me pone?  - It translates literally: "Can you put me?" and means: "can you give me?" that is an extra one you can use. It is the same as in English, you can use different expressions to ask for something in different ways:

I would like...
May I have?
Could you give me... ?

In Spanish you can use:
deme                  = give me
quiero - quisiera = I want, I would like
¿me pone?           = can you put me?

Use whatever expression you feel most comfortable with.

las horas

¡Hola chicos y chicas!

Yes, telling the time, as previously mentioned is so exact, when you get the hang of it is really easy, but some might need additional practice before the "eureka" moment arrives.

The good news are reading the time works exactly like the English clock reading, just with different words.

Here there is a site to start practising in small chunks.

Try this activity if need to refresh numbers:

http://www.digitaldialects.com/Spanish/numbers_1I.htm

This one is only to read from digital to manual (hands). It is timed. The instructions, in Spanish are simple: you will see a clock with hands and you have to use the arrows to stick the clock into the correct digital number.

http://concurso.cnice.mec.es/cnice2005/115_el_reloj/reloj/empezar.htm

This other one lets you choose the correct option by reading clocks:

http://www.editorialteide.es/elearning/Primaria.asp?IdJuego=1174&IdTipoJuego=7

Go ahead and try these out if you need further practise.

!bienvenidos!

¡Hola a todos!

I wish you all wonderful vacaciones!

Next term we will focus on eating, going to the market or going shopping.

I have found some sites to practise vocabulary during the holidays.

frutas y verduras: fruit and vegetables, it is a limited bunch, but good for starters:

http://www.digitaldialects.com/Spanish/Fruit.htm

Food and drinks:

http://www.digitaldialects.com/Spanish/Food.htm

Verduras - vegetable, once you know a few you can play around with vocabulary.

http://www.onlinefreespanish.com/aplica/lessons/vegetable/vegetablemenu.htm#.VQjWteEYM80

If you want to extend your vocabulary and try other themes, this is a great site to extend your number of words. I made a folder for our group so you can create an account, join the group and track your progress.

join here: http://quizlet.com/join/xKd5rmwZ5

And in addition, these are sites when you want to refresh stuff:

1. Wake up the box, choose what subject you want to practise (the skill is more challenging than the content, but I found it hilarious AND VERY ADDICTIVE- warning!)

 2. Overview of some Y9's modules, add it to bookmarks, so you can go back to lessons you want to refresh:

1.1 The following is a list by module/subject:
http://www.spanishrevision.co.uk/ks3/listos1/index.htm

3. La casa - extended house vocabulary. Practica:

3.1 la casa, more vocabulary with games

As we progress through the term I will be updating this site with different suggestions and more lists on quizlet.
Until then, I would be very thankful if you take some time on your holidays and give some feedback in the comment bit.
As a group it would be great if you also have some awesome sites or tips to share, please use the comments bit to do so!

¡Hasta pronto!
